Telemedicine Appointment FAQ’s

Telemedicine Appointment FAQ’s

What is Telemedicine?  Telemedicine is the use of audio and video technology to provide care to patients in the comfort of their home or at distance.  We are offering two options for telemedicine appointments –  Virtual Visits and Telephone Visits. Kane Hall Barry uses “Doxy” software, a browser based platform to perform virtual visits.

A Virtual Visit is conducted using a camera and microphone enabled device such as a smart phone or computer.  For this visit we will send you a link and instructions to join your visit via text or email.  You will click on the link provided, select your doctor’s name, and enter the provided code.  At that time you will be able to see your provider, discuss your concerns, and develop a care plan.  Prescriptions and tests can be ordered if needed. Click here to see what your check in will look like.

A Telephone Visit is conducted over the telephone, by appointment.  A staff member will call you, verify your identity, and gather key information.  The doctor or nurse practitioner will then speak with you to develop your care plan.  Prescriptions and tests can be ordered if needed.

Which type of visit should I pick?  You can pick the appointment type that will be the easiest for you to keep.  Many patients have said they prefer a telemedicine visit when it is for a routine follow-up, to request a prescription refill, or simply because it is convenient.  We realize not all of our patients are tech savvy, and not all have access to a smart phone or computer, and sometimes a telephone visit is the best option to reduce risk of exposure and still allow for routine care.  Please chose the option with wich you are most  comfortable.

Who is eligible for a telemedicine appointment?  Most insurance companies are covering telemedicine visits just like an in-office visit. Our business office will attempt to verify your benefits and let you know if telemedicine is not covered, however we encourage you to check with your insurance company to be sure.

When are telemedicine appointments available? Telemedicine appointments are available during normal business hours, which are Monday – Friday 8am-5pm.

Which providers offer telemedicine appointments?  All of our providers are offering Telemedicine appointments for the continuity of your care.

What will the visit cost? We will only collect your copay or coinsurance for now – just like an in-office visit.  We will then file with the insurance company for the remainder of the amount due.  Most insurance plans allow telemedicne visits under the Texas Medical Board and Trump administration waiver. Our top priority is the health and safety of our patients and staff and these are unprecedented times.  If you do not have insurance, we will treat this as any other in-office visit.  New patient visits range from $200-$300, follow up visits range from $145 to $195.
