Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is one of the chemicals – called neurotransmitters – that help transmit signals throughout your body. CGRP around the nerves in your head may play a key role in migraine pain.
Aimovig®, Ajovy®, and Emgality® each deal with CGRP in various ways and may significantly reduce the number of monthly migraines. Aimovig® selectively targets and blocks the CGRP receptor. Ajovy® selectively targets the CGRP ligand, and Emagality® binds to CGRP and blocks it from binding to the receptor. Talk to your doctor about which option is best for you.
