Celebrating Muna Bhattarai’s Achievement of Her Doctor of Nursing Practice
At Kane Hall Barry Neurology, we believe in celebrating our team’s dedication to excellence. In May 2025, we honored Muna Bhattarai, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, for earning her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). Muna joined our team on August 1, 2022, and quickly became known for her commitment to improving patient care and advocating for those with complex neurologic conditions.

To celebrate this major milestone, our staff signed a heartfelt card. Then, our Marketing & Communications Manager playfully lured Muna into the conference room under the pretense of a meeting with our Human Resources Manager. Moments later, Muna was joyfully surprised by a gathering of her colleagues, a cake, a balloon, and messages of congratulations from our entire team.
Muna's Journey at Kane Hall Barry Neurology
Muna joined Kane Hall Barry Neurology on August 1, 2022, bringing over a decade of nursing experience with her—several of those years focused specifically in neurology. She treats a wide range of neurologic conditions including stroke, dementia, epilepsy, sleep apnea, neuropathy, and headache disorders. She is also certified in headache medicine through the National Headache Foundation.
While continuing to treat patients full time, Muna completed her DNP program and led a doctoral project that focused on early screening for post-stroke depression using the PHQ-9 tool—an evidence-based method that is now actively improving outcomes for stroke patients in our care.
“Balancing school and clinical work wasn’t easy,” she said. “But the journey helped me grow as a provider, and it made me even more committed to giving patients the best care I can.”

Supported by Mentors, Surrounded by Colleagues
Muna credits Dr. Kahlon, one of our neuromuscular specialist neurologists, for encouraging her throughout her DNP journey.
“He’s someone I’ve looked up to from the start. His patient-first approach and his support through the ups and downs of this degree meant a lot.”
That openness to mentorship and collaboration is a big part of what makes Kane Hall Barry Neurology special.
“I’ve always felt like my ideas are welcomed here,” Muna said. “If something could improve the way we care for patients, the team listens. That’s not something you find everywhere.”

How Muna's Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree Enhances Patient Care at Kane Hall Barry Neurology
Muna’s DNP is more than a personal accomplishment—it brings elevated value to our patients. A Doctor of Nursing Practice is the highest clinical degree in nursing and focuses on applying evidence-based research to improve healthcare outcomes. Muna’s advanced training enhances her ability to:
- Recognize and address subtle neurologic symptoms earlier
- Lead and implement quality improvement initiatives
- Contribute to patient education with evidence-informed strategies
- Screen for post-stroke depression using validated tools like the PHQ-9 (the focus of her doctoral project)
- Collaborate closely with physicians on complex case management
Because of Muna’s leadership and passion for neurology, our patients benefit from more comprehensive, research-based care tailored to their individual needs. Her certification in headache medicine (AQH) also allows her to better support patients living with migraine and other headache disorders.
Outside of Work...
Outside of work, Muna enjoys spending time with her two daughters, traveling, hiking, and practicing yoga. Her favorite ways to recharge include cooking, trying new memory techniques, and being outside with family.
We’re proud to have Muna on our team—not just because of her accomplishments, but because of the energy, compassion, and curiosity she brings into the clinic every day.
