This year, Kane Hall Barry Neurology proudly celebrates a remarkable milestone—25 years of dedication and service from our EMR Specialist, Terri B.

For more than two decades, Terri has witnessed firsthand the evolution of Kane Hall Barry Neurology—from paper charts to electronic records, from small office spaces to our newest clinic, and through countless moments that define the heart of our practice.

When asked about her first day at KHB, Terri couldn’t help but smile.

“My first day at KHB was definitely memorable! Back then, our office was split—Dr. Kane and Dr. Barry shared one space while Dr. Hall’s office was upstairs. On day one, Dr. Hall’s nurse (who also happened to be his wife) was out, so I was sent upstairs to fill in. It was my very first day working in a medical office, and I was absolutely terrified. But somehow, I managed to survive the day—and the best part is, they kept me!”

Over the years, Terri has experienced multiple transitions, including one move she’ll never forget.

“The move I remember most was at the end of 2002, when we relocated to 1305 Airport Freeway. I had just returned from maternity leave, and instead of hiring movers, the staff rolled up our sleeves and did the packing and heavy lifting ourselves—charts and all! Luckily, we had a few high school helpers who saved us from total disaster. I’m pretty sure I made Dr. Barry promise that if we ever moved again, we had to hire a moving company.”

Reflecting on how far KHB has come, Terri shared her admiration for the practice’s strength and leadership.

“KHB has always been strong and resilient, no matter what challenges came our way. Healthcare is never easy, but our physicians have always been forward-thinking leaders who weren’t afraid to push boundaries. Even during tough times, when other practices struggled, KHB always found a way to keep moving forward.”

After working closely with patients for more than a decade as a medical assistant to Dr. Kane, Terri eventually transitioned into her current role as an EMR Specialist, where she provides end-user support for the Athena electronic health record.

“For me, it’s a tie. I absolutely love the patients—I miss working with them every day—but I also really enjoy IT. IT is like a never-ending puzzle, and for someone who gets bored easily, it’s the perfect fit. There’s always something new to learn and fix!”

And of course, no story about Terri would be complete without mentioning Dr. Kane’s famous pen collection that she helped him begin—a lighthearted piece of KHB history that started years ago.

“I’ve always believed in the magic of having the ‘right’ pen—it’s strangely motivating! Back when pharma companies had to stop giving out pens, it felt like a tragedy, so we all started hoarding whatever we could find. I think I brought the first shadow box to the office, and Dr. Kane and I began filling it with pens (I even brought some of my favorites from home!). Before long, Dr. Kane jumped in and started bringing bags of pens and even more shadow boxes to keep the collection going. And just like that, the pen obsession turned into a fun piece of KHB history.”

Outside of work, Terri’s creativity shines through her passion for silversmithing—a skill she not only practices but teaches. She serves as the Silversmithing and Show Chair for the Arlington Gem and Mineral Club, sharing her love of design and craftsmanship with others. When she’s not in the workshop or supporting the KHB team, you’ll often find her out for a run or enjoying tacos (her self-proclaimed favorite food).

Terri’s journey reflects the very spirit of Kane Hall Barry Neurology—resilient, innovative, and patient-centered. For 25 years, she has been a steady force behind the scenes, helping KHB evolve while preserving the heart and history that make it special.

Please join us in congratulating Terri B. on 25 incredible years of service, dedication, and heart.
