Infusion Benefits Coordinator

POSITION TITLE: Infusion Benefits Coordinator I
STATUS: Non- Exempt
REPORTS TO: Infusion Coordinator Supervisor
DIRECT REPORTS: N/A
ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE: Responsible for communication with referring providers, patients, and insurance
companies to ensure the patients’ health care benefits cover services to be provided prior to scheduling infusion
appointments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Verify insurance benefits, obtain authorizations/ re-certifications, schedule infusion patients, and check
patients in/ out.
• Monitor injection appointment and create tasks accordingly.
• Obtain signed financial agreements and collect patient financial responsibilities.
• Request necessary documentation from referring providers, document communication with referring
providers, insurance companies, and patients in We Infuse Log.
• Assist with management of medical records, faxing, and scanning documentation.
• Clean infusion chairs, and order/distribute lunches to patients.
• Work on Patient Flow in We Infuse. Use the filters to search for your assigned medications.
• Maintain treatment schedule for your assigned patients/ medications by using the We Infuse Patient Flow
process.
• Check the fax folders periodically throughout the day. All Infusion coordinators are responsible for
checking the fax folders for your assigned medications.
o File documents accordingly in EMR system(s). Be sure to move documents to the completed
folder after you have filed in EMR system(s).
o Start process for new referrals.
• Create Cost Estimates and notify patients prior to their appointment. Utilize the messages in Luma.
• Communicate with Purchasing Coordinator to ensure we have drug on hand or delivery date from SP.
• Schedule appointments in EMR system(s).
• Respond to Teams messages in a timely manner.
• Check emails and the EMR task inbox regularly and respond as necessary.
• Utilize One Note for step-by-step instructions on tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to include superior interpersonal and patient contact
skills and excellent telephone manners.
• Minimum of two years of experience with scheduling and insurance billing for medical services with
general knowledge of ICD10 and CPT codes.
• General knowledge of office procedures, equipment, and comprehensive computer skills.
• Ability to follow RN’s orders and thorough knowledge of infusion therapy practice.
• Previous experience as front office staff in physician’s office.
• Other job duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE, NOT REQUIRED:
• At least one (1) year of related experience in a Neurological setting
• EMR experience a plus.
