POSITION TITLE: Billing Specialist I

STATUS: Non- Exempt
REPORTS TO: Billing Office Supervisor
DIRECT REPORTS: N/A
ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE: Responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of payments and
maintaining precise billing records. The billing specialist is responsible for verifying billing data, resolving
discrepancies, and providing exceptional customer service to maintain the integrity of KHB’s financial
transactions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Upload and Reconcile Remittances within EMR system(s).
• Research and correct un-postables.
• Complete patient refunds within EMR system(s).
• Answers billing department phone calls.
• Review and complete billing department faxes and voicemails.
• Adding charges to patient accounts. (i.e. no show; FMLA paperwork; home health)
• Opting out of insurance companies credit card payment and requesting checks in lieu of.
• Review and complete EMR tasks. (i.e. missing slip; hold)
• Review patient collections in EMR system(s).
• Make minimal manual adjustments to patient collections.
• Issue insurance refunds for neurology.
• Other job duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
• Associates degree and/ or billing and coding certification; equivalent work experience may be
substituted for education requirements.
• Minimum of two years of experience working in a medical office setting, hospital, or insurance
company.
• Medical payment posting and/ or medical claims experience required.
• Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize, problem solve and multitask.
• Work under minimal supervision and effectively in a team environment.
• EMR experience a plus.


ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE, NOT REQUIRED:
• At least one (1) year of related experience in a Neurological setting.
• Experience working with Athena.
• Strong computer and typing skills.
• Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
