Telemedicine Appointment FAQ

What is Telemedicine?  Telemedicine is the use of audio and video technology to provide care to patients at the comfort of their home or at distance.  We are offering two options for telemedicine appointments –  Virtual Visits and Telephone Consultation. Kane Hall Barry uses “Doxy” software, a browser based platform to perform virtual visits.

A Virtual Visit is conducted using a camera enabled device such as a smart phone or computer.  For this visit we will send you a link and instructions to join your visit via text.  You will click on the link provided, select your doctor’s name, and enter the provided code.  At that time you will be able to see your provider, discuss your concerns, and develop a care plan.  Prescriptions and tests can be ordered if needed. Click here to see what your check in will look like.

A Telephone Visit is conducted over the telephone, by appointment.  A staff member will call you, verify your identity, and gather key information.  The doctor or nurse practitioner will then speak with you to develop your care plan.  Prescriptions and tests can be ordered if needed.

Which type of visit should I pick?  You can pick the appointment type that will be the easiest for you to keep.  We realize not all of our patients are tech savvy, and not all have access to a smart phone or computer.  Please chose the option that you are most  comfortable with.

Who is eligible for a telemedicine appointment?

  • All current Kane Hall Barry Neurology patients needing a follow-up
  • New patients with either Medicare or a state regulated plan such as:
    • Plans that have “TDI” or “DOI” on the ID card (see examples)
    • Short-term insurance, disability plans, and other limited benefit plans

When are telemedicine appointments available? Telemedicine appointments are available during normal business hours, which are Monday – Friday 8am-3pm.

Which providers offer telemedicine appointments?  All of our providers are offering Telemedicine appointment for the continuity of your care.

What will the visit cost? We will only collect your copay or coinsurance for now – just like an in-office visit.  We will then file with the insurance company for the remainder of the amount due.  Most insurance plans allow telemedicne visits under the Texas Medical Board and Trump administration waiver. Our top priority is the health and safety of our patients and staff and these are unprecedented times.  If you do not have insurance, we will treat this as any other in-office follow up visit which range from $145 to $195.
